Engineering Director

Our Engineering team is responsible for building, launching, and maintaining robust, accessible, and high-performance WordPress-powered websites and web and mobile applications, working alongside designers, project managers, and leadership.

You have a deep understanding of the agency landscape, business models, and how to collaborate with various industry sectors to develop large-scale and complex multi-domain platforms from inception to launch.
• Business Leadership: You know how to balance client needs and agency business models effectively. You can adapt your skills to support a diverse portfolio of clients and technical requirements. You’re comfortable leading discussions with senior internal and client stakeholders.
• Technical Expertise: You thrive when devising plans for delivering the right approach to a specific project. You collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, contributing technical expertise while leading engineering teams to ensure top-quality output.
• Communication: You speak the language of technology fluently. You can discuss technical subjects in a way that is accessible to everyone, whether they are engineers with technical expertise or stakeholders seeking to understand the value of engineering for their business.

• Lead and mentor a team of talented engineers
• Develop documentation standards and project-specific specifications or internal templates as needed
• Manage and prioritize projects
• Oversee QA processes to ensure technical requirements are met
• Manage the deployment and maintenance of large-scale websites, focusing on hosting structure, performance, and security
• Develop and evaluate recommendations in terms of scope, and craft plans to mitigate risks and ensure on-time and on-budget delivery
• Lead technical approaches for new business opportunities and active projects, including site auditing, RFP synthesis, technical scoping, and communication of considerations, complexities, or risks associated with each approach
• Build client trust as technical experts, partnering with clients possessing technical expertise or guiding those lacking it to support their technical business strategy
• Foster productivity, efficiency, and optimization to grow the engineering team and create a positive work experience
• Source, vet, and manage vendors and freelancers when necessary for project engagements
• Coach team members in your discipline to support their professional development and promote growth opportunities
• Enhance collaboration within the engineering team, across disciplines, and with external partners

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred
• 8+ years of experience in web development
• Exceptional leadership, project management, analytical problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
• Excellent JavaScript and PHP coding skills
• Able to speak confidently about solutions to clients and peers
• Ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical people
• Ability to prioritize several projects and collaborate across teams of different disciplines
